The main character is corrupted and influenced by Satan's poisons, such as "As a tree lives for its bark, a man lives for his face," and "A man leaves his name behind wherever he stays, just as a goose utters its cry wherever it flies," and becomes obsessed with status and prestige. Upon assuming a leadership position in the church, she begins to carry herself in the way she thinks a leader should act, believing that she should be better and on a higher level than others. When her shortcomings and faults are revealed, she begins to disguise and hide her true self, which causes her to live a very painful, exhausting life. She becomes slipshod in her duty and goes through the motions, and the work of the church is negatively affected. Through being judged and exposed by God's words, she discovers the root of her deceitfulness and her attempts to disguise herself. She comes to understand her arrogant and deceitful satanic disposition and to know that she has taken the wrong path in pursuit of reputation and status. She begins to let go of prestige and status, she becomes humble and open, and begins to practice being an honest person, which brings her peace and relief.
